Tidings for the families of Holocaust victims: Mercantile Bank and the Company for the Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims' Assets, have signed an agreement according to which the Mercantile Bank will transfer to the Company, over 5 Million NIS in respect of accounts opened by Jews who perished in the Holocaust, before World War II.
The Company for the Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims' Assets was established for the purpose of locating assets in Israel, which were purchased by European Jews before the Second World War. These Jews perished in the Holocaust and the said assets have not been transferred to their beneficiaries. Since its establishment in 2006, the Company has made every effort to locate these assets in Israel and to restore them to their legal heirs - the families of the Holocaust victims. As part of this effort, the Company's negotiations with the Mercantile Bank led to the signing of this important agreement.
The Company will make every effort to locate the legal heirs of the accounts in respect of which this money has been transferred, in order to restore the assets to them. Monies, for which the legal heirs are not found, will be transferred, in accordance with the law, for the benefit of Company activities in support of aid and assistance for needy Holocaust survivors in Israel.
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Micha Harish: "This is a noteworthy and important achievement for the continuation of the Company's activities on behalf of the beneficiaries of Holocaust Victims and for the Holocaust Survivors in need, living in Israel. This is another significant step in redressing historical injustice 70 years after the Holocaust. The Company welcomes the decision made by the Mercantile Bank in recognizing the importance of this effort and finding a solution. The Company will act vigorously and decisively to locate the beneficiaries of the Holocaust Victims whose accounts have been transferred to the Company."
